ADHD Testing Page

Comprehensive, integrated ADHD testing for children & teens

We combine objective attention testing with a full clinical evaluation – so you finally understand what’s really driving your child’s struggles at home and at school, and what will actually help.

UNDERSTANDING ADHD

How MindWeal approaches ADHD testing

ADHD testing at MindWeal is a computerized, objective measure of attention, impulsivity, and activity level. During testing, your child responds to simple sights and sounds on a screen while we measure how well they stay focused, respond consistently, and pause when needed.

We then compare your child’s performance to children of the same age and gender — so results are clear, specific, and meaningful, not vague or subjective.

Importantly, ADHD testing is never used alone to diagnose ADHD. At MindWeal, testing is just one part of a much broader evaluation that also includes: M-Wise structured assessment, a full clinical visit with a licensed provider, parent input, teacher feedback. This structured approach helps reduce misdiagnosis and avoid unnecessary medication by getting the diagnosis right the first time.  The goal isn’t to chase a test score.

The goal is to build the most accurate, whole-child understanding of what’s going on—so treatment decisions are thoughtful, targeted, and effective.

WHEN TO CONSIDER TESTING

Signs your child might benefit from
ADHD testing

ADHD testing isn’t necessary for every child. We recommend it when it will
meaningfully improve diagnostic clarity or treatment decisions.

Testing is often helpful when:

Symptoms look very different at home versus school

It’s unclear whether difficulties are due to ADHD or another condition (such as anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep issues, or learning differences)

Teachers report attention, processing, or academic concerns

Important decisions are being considered, such as starting or adjusting medication for ADHD

Your child is already in treatment and you want a more objective way to measure progress

Many children can be accurately diagnosed without testing. But when the picture is more complex, objective ADHD testing helps us see more clearly and choose the right next steps.

WHEN LEARNING STRUGGLES ARE PRESENT

Why evaluating attention first
leads to clearer answers

Attention is the first step in learning—and by far the most common cause of learning
difficulties. Evaluating attention first helps us build an accurate plan and determine
whether additional testing is truly needed.

Attention is the foundation of learning

If attention is inconsistent, everything that follows—memory, organization, and problem-solving—can be affected.

  • Focus determines what information the brain can take in and use
  • Weak attention can affect memory, organization, and follow-through
  • Attention difficulties are the most common cause of school struggles
Why not start with broader neuropsychological testing?

When attention is impaired, broader testing can be misleading.

  • Children may disengage during longer or more complex cognitive tests
  • Performance may reflect inattention rather than true ability
  • Results can appear artificially low, underestimating a child’s actual strengths.
A stepwise approach that improves accuracy

Rather than testing everything at once, we follow a structured sequence that sharpens each next step.

  • Identify attention challenges and ADHD when present
  • Start targeted treatment and school supports
  • Add further testing only if concerns remain
Faster, connected, and more affordable care

A focused ADHD evaluation often gives families what they need sooner, with fewer appointments and lower overall cost.

  • Evaluations are completed sooner, with faster results
  • Care stays coordinated because the same clinical team evaluates, interprets results, and provides treatment.
  • Testing is often covered by insurance and lower cost

HOW IT WORKS

Inside MindWeal’s ADHD Evaluation

A MindWeal ADHD evaluation brings together multiple inputs across settings—home,
school, testing, and clinical expertise—so you receive one clear, integrated picture.

Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation

Every ADHD evaluation starts with a full mental health assessment, including:

  • The M-Wise assesment completed at home
  • A detailed clinical visit with a MindWeal provider

We review your child’s history, meet with you and your child, and complete a full psychiatric evaluation to understand the complete context—not just symptoms.

Teacher input

We collect structured feedback from teachers to understand how attention, behavior, learning, and social functioning appear in the classroom.

Objective ADHD testing

When additional clarity is helpful, we add computerized ADHD testing. This is not required for every child and is used selectively—especially when symptoms overlap with other conditions or vary across environments.

Final integrated report

All findings are combined into a single, clear ADHD report that explains:

  • Whether ADHD is present
  • How we reached that conclusion
  • What supports and treatments are most likely to help

INSIDE THE VISIT

What happens on ADHD testing day

We know the word “testing” can sound intimidating. Our goal is to make the visit feel calm,
supportive, and manageable for your child.

1

A short, focused visit

Testing takes about 30 minutes. Your child works one-on-one with a trained staff member in a quiet room. We explain each step in kid-friendly language and do a short practice round so they feel comfortable before starting.

2

A test they can’t get “wrong”

Before and during the visit, we remind the child that this isn’t a knowledge or IQ test and there’s no passing or failing—it’s simply a way for us to see how their attention and self-control are working.

3

You’re kept in the loop

Parents typically wait in the waiting room. Before the visit, we explain exactly what to expect. After testing, we inform you when you’ll meet with your provider to review results in detail.

FROM DATA TO DECISIONS

How ADHD test results turn into a clear plan

Testing only matters if it improves real outcomes. That’s why results are
always interpreted in full context.

How we interpret the results

Your provider combines:

  • ADHD test data
  • M-Wise structured information
  • Clinical interview findings
  • Parent insights
  • Teacher input
  • Observations of child’s attention, impulsivity, behavior during testing

This allows us to understand not just whether ADHD is present—but how it shows up for your child.

What’s included in your child’s ADHD report

  • Whether ADHD is present and which subtype (if diagnosed)
  • Symptom severity and real-world impact
  • Whether executive function or learning challenges are involved
  • Practical classroom accommodations to share with school
  • Parent strategies to support focus and organization
  • Treatment recommendations, including when medication or counseling may help
  • Guidance on whether additional testing or specialists are recommended

This is a document you can actually use—with schools, providers, and at home.

How you receive the results

You’ll receive the report through your secure MindWeal portal along with a video on how to interpret the results, followed by a visit with your provider to review findings, ask questions, and agree on next steps together.
