MindWeal has formulated a policy on the prescription of stimulant medications, aimed at minimizing misuse and curbing medication diversion. This policy takes into account the findings of a comprehensive literature review and conforms to the guidelines put forward by organizations such as SAMSHA, AACAP, APA & AAP. Some important features of this policy include:
- Patients who are on stimulant medications are not permitted to use marijuana or any other illicit drugs.
- Patients aged 14 and above must provide an initial negative urine drug screen (UDS) before they can be prescribed stimulant medications.
- Patients aged 14 and above who are taking stimulant medications must have a minimum of one negative UDS result per year. More frequent and random UDS tests may be requested by your healthcare provider.
- If a UDS returns positive for any illicit substances, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is found in marijuana, stimulant medication will be stopped immediately.
